People listen to different kinds of music for various reasons. One is meditation. Modern practitioners introduced this idea which a lot of alternative doctors used. They played soothing melodies in the backdrop while performing their healing rituals. This kind of music became acknowledged as meditation music.
To begin with, sweet tunes have a consoling or relaxing effect on many people. Music is capable of affecting an individual’s frame of mind, behavior, and body. During the early periods, music was a medium for communicating with spirits as well as healing health conditions. One of the early advocates of music therapy to calm the soul was a psychologist and philosopher from Persia by the name of Al-Farabi during the 9th century.
In this modern era, music therapy is regarded as an art and science. It helps enhance the following:
Meditation music goes back to a number of very old civilizations. Shamans or sages made use of meditation music as they worshipped their gods. These spiritualists also chanted and sang hymns as they performed their healing rites and magic. On the other hand, Christians employed meditation music to fortify their spirits. Monks in holy temples always chanted tranquil hymns to imbue a quiet and sacred atmosphere. As you see, there were many forms of meditation music.
Music while meditating can be infused with religious content or without any specific spiritual focus. Indian Spiritual leader Sri Chinmoy (Chinmoy Kumar Ghose) taught meditation to Westerners after he relocated to New York City in 1964. He said meditating means entering the deeper part of the human being. You can compare it to “diving at the bottom of the sea.” The depths translate to silence. Meditation means silence, fulfillment, and energy. Waves from the outside world cannot affect your or cause apprehensions, doubts and worldly disorders.
Meditation continues to evolve. It changes as fast as the person grows older. Music in meditation nurtures the person’s genuine voice to support this practice. I honestly believe that music should be part of what I will call as regular learning. This is my piece on regular learning. Any person should not be limited to what he or she knows. You are at a complete loss if you do not learn. I believe that learning should become a habit for the sake of progress.
There are several types of regular learning such as listening to music; attending retreats and seminars; watching webinars; reading books; and, joining forums. What is regular learning? Why is it important? One definition says that regular learning is a method of engaging actively with experience. It is something a person does to discover the world. It includes development of skills, knowledge, responsiveness, values, ideas, feelings, or heightening the ability to think. Effective learning produces the desired transformation, development and yearning to learn new things.
Yes, it is important because learning continuously makes an individual happy and healthy. Regular and informal learning benefits all of us. And, meditation can be part of our regular learning.
