“The jewel is in the lotus or praise to the jewel in the lotus” (by His Holiness Tenzin Gyatso The Fourteenth Dalai Lama of Tibet )
There are six syllables in the Chant and each one has a meaning. The First syllable OM is the primordial sound or “Naad Brahma” of this universe. When pronounced correctly as A- U-M it represents the chanters impure body, speech and mind. They are symbolize Buddha’s exalted body, speech and mind.
Next four syllables MANI meaning jewel symbolizes our intention to become enlightened, compassionate. Like a jewel can bring prosperity, our mind is capable of removing mental poverty.
PADME means LOTUS and symbolizes wisdom. Lotus grows on mud and dirt but is still beautiful and fresh,
The last syllable HUM represents indivisibility and purity.
